Position Summary:
Supervises and directs all teams of superintendents to assist in ensuring safe and productive vessel operations. Represents Superintendents in Management and disciplinary meetings.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Proper coordination of superintendents for each operation. Coordinate and Supt. time off requests.
- Communicate with management and the planning department of any issues that come up during the operation and require more focus for future operations.
- Validate all timecards and OERs are correctly entered in QuickBase for management approval.
- Coordinate and support Shift Leads in managing the vessel operations.
- Participate in the regular Port and management meetings to stay in the loop of current ops status.
- Training and Safety – Assist OM/AOM/HSSEM to ensure all working areas are safe and team is fully trained to carry-out their responsibilities safely and effectively. Collaborate with the Admin. Department to ensure that all HT superintendents are current on training and certifications.
- Leadership – Provide direct organizational oversight (at the direction of the OM and AOM) of terminal operations staff in developing, monitoring, coordinating and carrying out planning and implementation of vessel operations. Hire/fire/discipline authority for all HT ILA personnel, plus initiate disciplinary proceedings for vessel operations company employees as appropriate.
- Collateral Responsibilities – Perform other duties as assigned by HT Senior Management.
Requirements:
- Four-year college degree or equivalent experience
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
- Marine terminal vessel experience
- Vessel Planning experience
- Ability to board and disembark large container vessels from steep gangways
- Competency with Microsoft Office applications
- Competency with Quick Base applications
- Superintendent III or equivalent experience
Desired skills:
- Terminal operating systems experience preferred
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude in the work environment
Working Conditions:
Must be able to work outside, exposed to all weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain. Standing and walking will be required throughout the course of a normal day. The wearing of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, safety shoes, a safety vest and a hard hat will be required. Other tasks related to cargo management will require sedentary period for computer input and document review. Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment and participate in company and WGMA drug screening programs.
Hours:
Normal core working hours are Monday through Friday from 07:00 – 18:00. with exceptions made to out of the normal activities related directly to vessel operations. Extended hours, days, evenings and weekends possible.
